Community Libraries

Rapidly Expanding

Child Aid

Child Aid’s community library program is going through rapid expansion. We are partnering with more communities to help them create vibrant learning centers for their communities. We begin by getting to know the community and help them build a long range plan for what they want to see their library become. We then work with them to help them identify and cultivate available resources. While we do help with financial and material support, we focus on helping them acquire the broad array of skills needed to run an active library. These include the planning and fundraising skills that will allow them to make their community library a continuing and sustainable community asset.

Engines of Change

Community libraries are miraculous vehicles for change. Each community is different. Some communities have resources that have allowed them to build rather nice structures while some occupy a space no larger than a garage. However, it is not the size of the facility that makes a library vibrant. Rather, it is the commitment and passion of the individuals in the community that make a library come to life.
When we find these committed individuals or groups in places such as Chicacao, Xenacoj, Quixaya, Rio Bravo or Tiquisate, Child Aid begins its process of helping these communities create vibrant and sustainable organizations.
